Sioux Falls Scientists recommends the following books that describe how evolution works and the history of evolution science. It's all here. How evolution began from a simple single cell or cell-like creature, maybe a creature without even a cell membrane, and how the world wound up with literally tens of millions of difference creatures. 5,490 mammals, 9,998 birds, 9,768 reptiles, 7,093 amphibians, 31,300 fish, 1,305,250 invertebrates, 321,212 plants, 10-30 million insects, and more. Noah's ark would have sunk like a rock! (The Noah's Ark story just reveals the total ignorance of those writing the stories. They had no concept of the world as it really is, and no grasp of the huge diversity of creatures that lived on it. Their world consisted of what little they could see around them and the simple concepts they grew up with.)

Sioux Falls Scientists also recommend the books by Jared Diamond, Guns, Germs, and Steel, and Collapse, for giving us a glimpse of our possible future. And Extinction for describing the great mass extinction 250 million years ago which wiped out 95% of life on earth, and which opened up a virtually unpopulated world for us to eventually evolve in.

The major driver which forces advances in evolution is species stress. This is the same driver at work for bacteria that antibiotics no longer work for. A antibiotic kills off all but a few of the infectious bacteria. But which bacteria are the ones that survive? The stronger ones of course. So with time these stronger bacteria breed and create a "mutated" new species of bacteria, stronger and tougher than it's older "parent" species, and immune to the antibiotics that used to kill them off.

This same species stress also worked for us. 70-75,000 years ago there was an environmental disaster event that wiped out all but about 10,000 members of Homo Sapiens. We were down to maybe as few as 500 breeding females. We were at the edge of extinction. But the strongest survived, the most intelligent survived, the most brutal survived, and here we are, the overwhelming dominate species on the planet, the result of the "antibiotic" effect of the environment not quite wiping us all out. What did not kill us all made us stronger!
